Quality assurance studies at our university started with the certification of ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) studies of Vocational School of Technical Sciences in 2002, Faculty of Medicine and Health Research and Application Center in 2003 by the Turkish Standards Institute. In order to plan and carry out the necessary studies and activities to be implemented in all units of the University within the scope of quality assurance, Quality Management Coordinatorship (KYK) was established in December 2007. As a result of the studies carried out in line with our mission, vision and quality policy, our university became the first state university to receive ISO 9001: 2008 QMS certificate for all academic and administrative units in 2010. Quality management system activities have been carried out within the scope of ISO 9001: 2015 certificate since 22 March 2018.

 

In order to create the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) in Europe, the work initiated under the Bologna Process name including the participation of Turkey, the European Credit Transfer System Mersin University (ECTS), Diploma Supplement (DS) Label and international mobility work has been initiated. As a result of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and Diploma Supplement (DS) studies initiated after the establishment of the Bologna Coordination Commission in 2010, our University took its place among the universities that were entitled to receive the ECTS   and DS labels for the years 2012-2015.

 

As a result of the accreditation studies initiated to achieve the goal of improving the quality of education, which is among the primary goals of the senior management of our university, the undergraduate medical education program of the Faculty of Medicine, Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Food Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering programs, Faculty of Pharmacy Pharmacist education and Faculty of Communication Radio, Television and Cinema Program have been accredited by relevant accreditation bodies.

 

The Advanced Technology Education Research and Application Center (MEİTAM) Test and Calibration Laboratories have been accredited by the "Turkish Accreditation Agency" (TÜRKAK) within the scope of the document annex, according to the TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories standard.

 

Mersin University was awarded the "European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Competence in Excellence 4 Star Certificate" valid between October 2013 and October 2015, due to the work done by KYK for the "Perfection Stages Competency Certification".

 

By carrying out the "Physical Accessibility Map" which is prepared for disabled students and for people with disabilities and the project "Voice Textbook" conducted for academic accessibility, Mersin University, has been found worthy of an award by the Turkey Barrier-Free Computing Platform, in the "Barrier-Free Education" category. Both projects are important in that they are the first implementation among universities in our country. As a result of the regulation and improvement works carried out within the scope of the barrier-free campus, the Ministry of Family and Social Policies awarded Mersin University the "Accessibility-Quality Incentive Award" on 03.12.2011. In the 2019 Barrier-Free University Awards Ceremony by the Higher Education Council, it was deemed worthy of a total of 20 awards: 9 units for Access to Space (Orange Flag), 7 units for Access to Socio-Cultural Activities (Blue Flag) and 4 units for Access to Education (Green Flag).

 

All studies related to the development of quality assurance processes in the fields of education, scientific research, administrative service and contribution to society of our university are planned and carried out in cooperation with the Quality Supreme Board, Quality Commission, Quality Management Coordinator and Bologna Coordination Commission which are all established by Mersin University Quality Assurance Directive.
